Breville’s challenge was to make a complex product range easier to understand at shelf. With different models, features and levels of functionality competing for attention, the opportunity was to help shoppers quickly see what changes from one product to the next and why trading up might be worth it. We built the system around three principles: clear tiering through colour, a consistent icon language and modular components that retailers can easily update. The result is a visual structure that works from a distance, then gives shoppers the right level of detail as they move closer to the product. Colour-coded shelf talkers and single-SKU glorifiers make the product ladder easier to read, even when only one appliance is physically on display. Recipe-led communication then shifts the focus from features to possibilities, showing shoppers what they can actually make and helping each appliance feel more relevant to different meal occasions. The final layer adds sensory interruption. Motion-triggered devices use category-specific sounds to draw attention to grill and coffee zones, with the coffee concept able to add aroma for a more immersive effect. Together, the system makes Breville easier to notice, easier to compare and easier to understand at the exact moment shoppers are deciding what to buy.
